Themes for next three WYDs

Published: December 17, 2008

Pope Benedict XVI has announced the themes for the next three World Youth Days in order to help young Catholics better prepare for the next international gathering in Madrid in 2011.

WYD 2011 will take place from August 16 to 21, 2011, in Madrid, Spain, Catholic News Service reports.

The theme for the 2011 event is "Rooted and built up in Jesus Christ, firm in the faith". The quotation is taken from the second chapter of St Paul's Letter to the Colossians.

"We have set our hope on the living God" is the theme chosen by Pope Benedict for the 2009 celebrations, which will be held on the diocesan level.

In 2010, also on the diocesan level, young people will focus on the theme "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"

The pope chose all three themes ahead of time "to help build a spiritual itinerary that will lead to the international WYD scheduled to take place in Madrid" in 2011, said the Vatican press release.

THEMES

  • 24th World Youth Day (2009): "We Have Set Our Hope on the Living God" (1 Tim 4:10)
  • 25th World Youth Day (2010): "Good Teacher, What Must I do to Inherit Eternal Life?" (Mk 10:17)
  • 26th World Youth Day (2011): "Rooted and Built Up in Jesus Christ, Firm in the Faith" (cf Col 2:7).

  1. You mean the build up to 'World Youth Day' by the shadowy religious fundamentalist, religious extremist groups- Opus Dei(s) & Neocatechumenates?

The Spanish government have no idea what they've got themselves into, supporting the 'Catholic-talibans' to host this event.

  2. TJ, I think I can speak for everyone when I ask: what on earth are you on about?

  3. The themes are terrific as they seem well planned to inspire us all once again in the awesome reality of the living God, found in the face of the One who was revealed in the fullness of time - the Christ, our Lord and Saviour

Your continual bigoted comments are tiresome TJ Lawson. The Church is outside of political institutions, even an anology discredits your understanding. It is not of this world, Its words are Spirit and Life - Please start enjoying the amazing gift!

  4. Watch out TJ, those secret evil Neo-Cats and Opus Deians are coming to get you! It's all part of their vast conspiracy to take over the world! Better wear a metal colander on your head at all times so they don't take over your brain! (On second thoughts that might be impossible).

  5. Oh, do shut up, TJL. Do you really have to have a view against everything associated with the Church? You prefer the communist Spanish against the Church. Why don't you just give up and publicly admit that you are fielding for the opposition?

  6. Alex Knight, you do not speak for everyone, just arrogantly for some.

  7. Communist Spanish? That's new...
Demonizing communist is definitely your forte - after all you're a militant exploitative capitalist aren't you?

  8. Don't be silly Ronk!

Tin foil on a regular hat is a perfectly acceptable substitute for protection against Opus Dei mind control...

  9. Actually TJ I'm pretty sure you're being vague enough so that nobody really has any idea of what you're on about...

Still, I arrogantly ask on behalf of the some whom I represent: what on earth are you on about?

  10. Militant exploitative capitalist! I nearly fell off my chair with laughter. I am a PhD student at uni whose sole source of income is a government scholarship, and working towards being an academic with no possibility of earning more than a decent living wage. I couldn't be militant in any sense apart from the simple militant Christian sort if I tried. No, I am just a Catholic with a knowledge of history.

  11. Kiran, perhaps you should live in the real world, the books are not doing much good to you. I suspect the books that you are reading are not just cooking your brains out, but are perhaps even slowly cooking your heart (hard) out without your realising it.

I suspect with the reading of your postings and comments, your academia clique is insulating you from the reality of the majority of people who are having it harder than you are.

I wish you all your best in your studies, but the greater academia is LIFE itself and the stories of other human-beings; history is only but a side of the story narrated by another human-being with their own interpretation and agendas.

  12. TJ, I think the most amusing thing about you is that you pretend to wisdom, while being illogical. How, for instance, do you know anything about the past, were it not for 'history'?

  13. I'm sitting here, still as ignorant as the Spanish government as to what they have "got themselves into". It would be nice if TJ could explain what exactly he means...

  14. Good afternoon everyone, how are you???... I am looking at the themes from holy pope Benedict XVI, has announced the themes for the next World Youth Day. That's right - themes very important to the young catholics so that they can better prepare for the next WYDS-2011 in MADRID-SPANHA. And then for all catholics in world at my country in Diossis Timor-Leste. Though it may I take from themes now, any courtesy to extended by regards thank you and god for us.
