Bathurst bells set for first collective ring

Published: June 16, 2009

Bathurst's city bells, located in a newly built tower at the All Saints Anglican Cathedral, will ring out together for the first time later this month to welcome the new Catholic Bishop of Bathurst, Fr Michael McKenna.

The secretary of the cathedral bells of Bathurst committee, Margaret Macpherson, says it will be full circle ringing, ABC News reports.

"For the last century, up to 1970, one bell at a time was rung but people haven't heard the bells in their full glory," she said.

"A team of bellringers will come up from Sydney to perform the event at 3.00pm AEST on June 26.

"The official opening on the bell tower will happen in October."
