Council approves Church bushland subdivision

Published: February 12, 2010

Bendigo Council has approved a proposal by the Church to subdivide 15 hectares of bushland in Golden Square, a move that has been opposed by local residents unhappy with the potential removal of vegetation and concerns over increased traffic.

Mayor Rod Campbell cast the deciding vote at a council meeting last night.

Chief executive Craig Niemann says council made a small amendment last night to reduce the number of subdivisions to 69.

"There's a subdivision for housing lots," he said.

"One lot for ... where the Bishop's residence is and there's a large lot of about seven hectares which is to be preserved for vegetation protection."
