---

Tasmania's Archbishop Adrian Doyle has unveiled a plaque at Hobart's St Mary's Cathedral to recognise Aborigines as the traditional owners of the cathedral grounds.

It is the first time the state's Church has given such recognition, the ABC reports.

Archbishop Doyle said the ceremony was a first, but "I'm hoping it's not the last" and expressed hope for similar ceremonies "at the entrance to all our churches."

Aboriginal elder elder Eva Richardson was quoted as saying the ceremony was an important step toward reconciliation.
