Event - Ecumenical St Patricks Day service in Canberra

Published: March 17, 2010

The Canberra Friends of Ireland Society is hosting the only inter-church celebration of St Patrick in Australia today. The society says all the Irish men and women, irrespective of denomination, have contributed to this country and so all should feel at home in any religious celebration.

So the service iwll be held at the Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture whose Director, Irish-born Rev Prof James Haire, is a distinguished Reformed Church theologian.

The service includes Bishop Pat Power, the Salvation Army’s Major Rodney Ainsworth, Uniting Church minister, Rev Myung Haa Park, Presbyterian minister Rev Joy Bartholomew, and the Rev Vikki Cullen, Anglican.

Diplomats from the Irish Embassy will say special prayers for the peace process in Northern Ireland.
