Interfaith memorial service for Sept 11 attacks

The Archbishop of Sydney, Cardinal George Pell, will host an Interfaith Memorial Service to mark the 10th anniversary of September 11, for families, friends and colleagues from Australia and the US, the archdiocese said in a statement.

The service will begin at 4pm on Sunday September 11 at St Mary's Cathedral in Sydney.

It will also be attended by Rabbi Jeremy Lawrence, Senior Rabbi of The Great Synagogue, Sydney; Sheikh Dr Mohammed Anas, Zetland Mosque, Sydney as well as Mr Niels Marquardt, Consul General, United States of America.

The former Australian Consul-General in New York, Ken Allen, will also be attending, along with the former Prime Minister, John Howard, who was in office at the time of the tragedy.

Ten Australian families of the victims will attend the service.
