CRA offers support to LCWR in America

Published: May 03, 2012

Catholic Religious Australia has offered a letter of support to the LCWR in America, according to a statement released by CRA.

"On behalf of the Council of Catholic Religious Australia I write to offer you and all your Sisters in LCWR our support at this time," writes CRA President Sr Anne Derwin.

"We appreciate that your Board is yet to meet and discuss the conclusions of the Congregation for Faith and Doctrine of the Faith’s doctrinal assessment and the implementation plan put forward by that Vatican Office.

"We thank you for your example of conducting this discussion calmly, without judgment and in an atmosphere of prayer, contemplation and dialogue. This way of operating is the norm for you. Be assured that the women and men religious of Australia are praying for you."

  1. Well done, Anne, and the religious of Australia.
Faithfulness and truth don't seem to get a guernsy in the Roman arena today.

  2. This is a heartening gesture.

  3. Silence in Prolife issues?
Yes, we ought to pray that LCWR should make a humble and prayerful introspection on their original calling - to be men and women of poverty, chastity and obedience.
The good that they do must be commended, but also they need to re-evaluate who they are: Religious Men and Women in the Church.
The laity needs to shepherd according to the heart of Jesus, not social workers.

  4. Rob: As far as I can tell, the people under scrutiny are the ones who appear to disdain the guernsey of the church.
Instead, they seem content to create their own colours and cry foul when it's pointed out that it's wrong to take the field for the Catholic Crusaders.
To continue the analogy, we don't see too many Hawthorn jumpers pouring out of the Bombers' dressing room before the first whistle, do we?
What would be the crowd reaction if we did, I wonder?

  5. Wonderful gesture to our Sisters in the United States.
    They are an incomparable group.
I, too, am edified by their calm and measured response to this Vatican intrusion.
May the Spirit of God take the blinders off the Roman group and breathe generously in our heroic religious women.

  6. Well done, Anne, and the Catholic Religious of Australia in giving a simple, beautiful, reflective and proper response to our Sisters in USA.

  7. Congratulations to CRA for your support of the LCWR.
Please forward a copy of your letter to the Congregation of the Faith and Doctrine at the Vatican to show that LCWR is not alone in wanting to discuss Faith and Doctrine which affects all concerned catholics worldwide.

  8. Good grief. Maybe we need an Apostolic Visitation.

  9. Thank you, Anne, for speaking on our behalf.

  10. I applaud and join the CRA in their public support of our American Religious sisters.
I might remind Frank that many of us in the Church are social workers because we have been inspired by the heart of Jesus.
Is it any coincidence that those in this forum who seem to find objection to this action happen to be men ?

  11. Thank you, Anne, for writing on our behalf.
The LCWR has been very cooperative with the investigation. I admire their patience.
We will continue to pray for them.

  12. A wellprepared expression of support - I endorse the messsage, and am grateful it has been sent.

  13. One hundred percent support. Remember the prophets.
