Caring for the Environment

Published: November 09, 2012

Pope Benedict in his message for the World Day of Peace in 2010 chose the theme If You Want to Cultivate Peace, Protect Creation.

In this message he says "creation is the beginning and the foundation of all God's works', and its preservation has now become essential for the pacific coexistence of mankind.

Yet no less troubling are the threats arising from the neglect – if not downright misuse – of the earth and the natural goods that God has given us."Should we as Catholics worry about ecology?

To speak about the relation between the Church and ecology Deacon Pedro invites Sr Damien-Marie Savino FSE, Chair of the Department of Environmental Science and Studies of the University of St Thomas.

I do not believe the Council was a failure. It has already changed the way we live - and think - as Catholics, says Robert Blair Kaiser in the 2012 Tablet lecture, published in The Tablet.
