A retired Hunter Valley Catholic priest faced Newcastle Local Court for the first time yesterday after being charged over the alleged cover-up of child sexual abuse, according to an ABC report on Yahoo7.
The 81-year-old man was charged on January 4, becoming the second Australian to be charged with a child sex cover-up.
He is accused of concealing two alleged offences committed by another Hunter Valley man against a nine-year-old boy. The offences are alleged to have occurred between 1982 and 1984 at Nelson Bay and Stockton.
His bail was continued and he is due back in court on March 13.
Meanwhile, an 80-year-old former Marist brother also faced Newcastle Local Court charged with more than two dozen offences, including the indecent assault of two boys at Marist College in the 1960s and 1970s.
He is due to face court again on March 13.
