The Chancellor of Australian Catholic University (ACU), General Peter Cosgrove, has been bestowed with the Honour of the Knight of the Grand Cross in the Order of St Gregory the Great, by The Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, according to a media release.
General Cosgrove was awarded the honour for his distinguished services to the Church in the Archdiocese of Sydney.
Cardinal George Pell bestowed the honour upon General Cosgrove at a formal ceremony at Cathedral House in Sydney yesterday.
He was invested with the insignia of the Knight of the Grand Cross in the Order of St Gregory the Great and presented with the formal citation.
General Cosgrove said that to receive the honour was a great privilege and, "I could not be more pleased and humbled by this".
