Chiara Petrillo was an Italian mother who refused life-saving cancer treatment that would have damaged or destroyed her baby. The baby was born perfectly well; Chiara died. Can we really approve of what Chiara did? We might admire her. But perhaps deep down we think she was a bit unwise, maybe even foolish. How can she kill herself to save the life of a foetus, asks the Catholic Herald.

On the Feast of St Peter and St Paul last week, the new Archbishop of Brisbane, His Grace Mark Coleridge, was at St Peter’s in Rome for Mass with 30 pilgrims from his archdiocese to receive his pallium from the Pope. Last week, in the 73rd year of his life, his 55th as a Jesuit and his 42nd as a priest, Rev Prof Emeritus Peter Daniel Steele SJ AM passed away. A poet, a wordsmith, a scholar, a teacher, a friend, a faithful servant of his Lord.
