  8. Life-long daughter of the church and revolutionary

    Born during World War II in Havana, Ada Isasi-Díaz seemed destined for a life in the Church. After her arrival in the US as a political refugee in 1960, she joined the Ursulines and completed an undergraduate degree before the order sent her to Peru for three years. But her experience as a Latina effectively changed her views, and turned her into a dissident theologian who retained her hands-on approach to her ministry while she divided academia.
