Within the Catholic Church there is a community of speakers who seem to enjoy scraping the marble cladding off the the language of Shakespeare and reducing it to brick. Tim Martin’s life got off to a pretty rocky start. The only child of elderly parents, he spent some time pierced by the thorny breast of a country boarding school, then went on to another where many shone. He didn’t and in the 1970s he was drowning in alcohol and swamped by depression. But Tim managed fought back with courage that should give heart to us all.
