Easter ideally is about clean endings and new beginnings. We associate it with the crisp, sunny morning after industrial smog has cleared away. Mary Glowrey was said to radiate Christ by word and example. The poor were the people of her choice and incurable patients had a special place in her heart. Mary never attempted anything without praying to the Holy Spirit, knowing that with the help of the Holy Spirit all things are possible. For the last two years of her life, she shouldered the Cross of excruciating physical pain brought upon by cancer which she bore with extraordinary courage and patience. - The Far East

Marriage is at the very heart of our faith community, proclaiming in microcosm what the whole Church proclaims in macrocosm. The faith communion of husband and wife is a wonderful sign of the communion of the Christian community. It is truly a sign of the love that exists between Christ and his Church. We must work seriously to ensure that the Catholic family can continue to exist and to proclaim the Christian message. - Bishop David L. Walker, Broken Bay News

Technology is laying all manner of secrets bare. Forget websites for a moment: take the most explosive knowledge of all - our DNA. Time was when a mother was the only person who knew for sure who was likely to be the father of her child. Now anyone in possession of a swab who can get a child to open his mouth can find out precisely who the father is, for a fee. Every man who suffers from the primal uncertainty that his sex is prey to can have his fears confirmed or nullified. The implications are, I'd say, very profound indeed. - Melanie McDonagh, The Tablet

This is a film for special audiences. It moves warmly at a gentle and slow pace, and shows the effects of the death of a widowed matriarch on a family, that grieves when she dies. It deals with feelings of mortality, nostalgia, and family relationships in an arresting way. In a very vivid sense, one feels the camera snooping on members of the family as they interact with other. There is an extraordinary naturalness to how they interrelate. - Peter W. Sheehan, Australian Catholic Office for Film and Broadcasting

This is a very smart science fiction movie that makes clever use of natural uncertainty about the world's future. It is a movie that tugs at our emotions, and it deals with the supernatural in ways which lead the viewer in directions that suddenly turn themselves around to mean something different. Reflecting the character of the science fiction-supernatural genre, the film explores life's issues philosophically, but true also to its character, it can't answer all of the questions it raises. - Peter W. Sheehan, Australian Catholic Office for Film and Broadcasting

It is increasingly common to be confronted over Catholic teachings on sexual morality by someone whose own practice, or those of close relatives, are at odds with this. Something similar occurred when divorce first became common but still carried a stigma. Those who had separated and remarried challenged Catholics on their "narrow-minded" and "un-Christian attitude". I suspect that there was an element of bad conscience in these charges. - John Haldane, The Catholic Herald

A common complaint about the classical Christian teachings on sexuality is that so many of these have been written by vowed celibates, unmarried priests and nuns who do not have sex. The complaint is not that these people teach something that is wrong, but that not being married, they invariably tend to over idealise sex and encase it in unrealistic sacred romance. - Fr Ron Rolheiser, Western Catholic Reporter

We celebrate the pinnacle of the Good News, the Resurrection of Jesus from the dead, in the midst of a lot of bad news this year. The deaths of hundreds of people in bushfires in Victoria are fresh in our minds as we approach Easter and ponder anew the mystery of life and death. We know that nothing can happen that can separate us from the love of Christ, and the gift of his risen life offered to all. - Fr Brian O'Connell, Marist Messenger
