Harradine out of hospital
70 year old Tasmanian independent Senator Brian Harradine was discharged from hospital yesterday after a minor stroke 10 days ago.
Australian Associated Press reports that he was admitted to hospital after suffering the symptoms of a stroke at home.
Senator Harradine did not contest the October election and will retire on June 30 after 30 years in parliament.
He thanked hospital staff, his family, friends and supporters for their help over the past few days.
"I'd like to thank my wife Marian, family, friends, supporters, staff and colleagues for their support and prayers during these past 10 days," Senator Harradine said.
"I have been well looked after, and I look forward to serving the people of Tasmania in these remaining months of my parliamentary term."
A spokesman for the senator said he was making strong progress towards a complete recovery.
After Senator Harradine's admission to hospital, Hobart's Archbishop Adrian Doyle said he shared concerns about the Senator's health and would be "certainly be praying for his successful and complete recovery".
"I'm sure the Catholic community will be wishing to support him and his family in their prayers," he said.
