The Organisation

The Council of Catholic School Parents NSW/ACT (CCSP) is an association within the Catholic Church and is the largest non-government parent body in NSW, representing the interests of the parents and carers of more than 250,000 Catholic school students in nearly 600 schools. Its mission is to provide leadership, advocacy and support, by encouraging partnership between families and schools, working with government to improve outcomes for students, and providing professional learning opportunities for teachers, principals and parents.

The Role

Reporting to the Executive Director, CCSP, the Media and Communications Officer (MCO) is responsible for coordinating campaigns and communications across a broad spectrum of stakeholders that focus on the mission of CCSP as well as the challenges faced by families and schools within the NSW/ACT Catholic Education sector.

This role will see you writing and review engaging features and stories for CCSP’s website, social media channels and newsprint publications that resonate with teachers, principals and families. The MCO will engage with relevant state and federal government stakeholders and media personnel with a view to ensuring the voice of Catholic school parents is heard, and working towards improving student outcomes and wellbeing.

Using your creative flair, you will contribute to CCSP’s re-branding processes and oversee the redesign of the CCSP website and content. You will design and produce promotional material, coordinate the compilation of CCSP’s quarterly newslatters, and assist in the coordination of special events and conferences. Key to this role will be your ability to build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, whilst seeking opportunities to promote the work of CCSP and the role of families and parent engagement.

This role is a permanent part-time position, working 3-4 days per week. Flexibility around days/hours is negotiable. The role is based in the Sydney CBD.

Key Requirements

The Media and Communications Officer will ideally possess the following:

  • A demonstrated commitment to the ethos and values of the Catholic Church
  • Tertiary qualifications in Media, Communications or other relevant discipline
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a similar role
  • Proven track record of writing original and compelling content
  • Familiarity of current key issues facing schools, parents and families
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe suite as well as building digital stories for websites and social media platforms
  • Experience in video production is desirable
  • An ability to recognise external media opportunities
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills
